Worrying about whether we’re missing out on new experiences, content, trends and even investments can make us feel like we’re falling behind. But we can actually overcome that feeling – FOMO or “Fear of Missing Out” – and be present with what we have. Here are 4 tips to help you, and your family, reduce FOMO and enjoy who and where you are in the moment:

  1. Move from a mindset of comparison to a mindset of abundance. There are plenty of friends and gatherings for everyone to participate in.
  2. Feeling stressed/panicked due to FOMO? Breathe and ask yourself, is there a real danger or threat?
  3. Know your triggers. If seeing posts late at night is more likely to bring about FOMO, use your phone’s built in features to turn off notifications at that time.
  4. Remember, you need time to rest and recharge. It is OK and even important to set aside time for rest and to focus on the people we are spending time with instead of the people we are not with.
