Helping kids and teens navigate online life can be challenging, but families don’t have to do it alone. As part of Safer Internet Day, ConnectSafely partnered with National PTA to host a timely conversation focused on helping families support young people in today’s digital world.
In this discussion, ConnectSafely Education Director Kerry Gallagher joined PTA Connected National Ambassador Mikki Wilson to share practical strategies and real-world guidance for families. Together, they addressed some of the most pressing issues young people and caregivers are facing online today, including:
- Financial scams targeting teens — and how artificial intelligence is making them harder to detect
- How algorithms influence what young people see and experience online
- Approaches for talking with kids about extremist content and difficult or upsetting news
- Staying safe while using in-game chat and other social gaming features
- Supporting teens if someone shares their photo without consent
- How smartphones are shaping friendships, communication, and social dynamics
